My Life

amber circa 1981

I’ve been many things over my life so far… a Navy Brat, an artist, a writer, an actor, a singer, a historian, and most importantly, a mother. I’ve been through all but eleven states in my life, living in Atlanta, Georgia since 2006. Before that, South Georgia, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Washington State and Virginia. My youth was (mis-)spent moving around from place to place, picking up and putting down so many things that have interested me.

I have at times too many hobbies, including but not limited to everything to do with pop culture, though I do have some limitations in paying attention to everything around me. Right now, my DVR is filled to the brim with pretty much a sampling of every type of television show out there, and my bookshelves are overflowing with things that I need to read. I write occasionally for myself and also for others, some now and some in the past, along with sharing everything interesting that comes across my twitter feed and facebook profile.

My Work

I have over 12 years experience with designing and developing for the web, and I am currently employed at Turner Broadcasting as the senior webmaster for NBA.com. Before my current position at NBA, I was the senior webmaster at pgatour.com, having worked at Turner since January of 2007. While I’ve been centering on large sports sites during by employment with Turner, I really enjoy working on mid to small sized sites and have left my mark on everything from musicians, fan tracks at Dragon*con, and historical research sites.

In the last few years, Information Architecture (IA) and Usability Experience (UX) have become more than just buzzwords to me, and I’ve become an advocate for taking the web out of the designers and developers telling the end user what to experience and letting the users let us know what it is that they would like to see and what would be most useful to make their experience on the web more helpful and fun.

Standards are the key. HTML/CSS/JS, that I’ve got in hand and under control, but I’m always wanting to learn more and find out what new and spectacular thing is just around the corner.

I am also a complete WordPress fangirl, though I have been known to dabble in some Drupal and Joomla in the past. At the moment, I’m playing around with Magneto to help round out my experience, and I’m always willing to pick up and learn most any of the Content Management Systems out there.
